Touring exhibition

In order to publicise the 175th Anniversay Celebrations, a series of 'pop-up' exhibitions were planned to take place before the anniversary weekend. These exhibitions provided a unique opportunity to see in one place the complete collection of information banners which had been produced for the anniversary before they were distributed for display at the various events over the celebration weekend.

These exhibitions proved so popular that further displays are being planned to take place after the anniversary weekend, right up until the end of the anniversary year.

The exhibition on tour

Friday 24th May, 2019 - Waitrose, Abingdon

A mini display was mounted at Waitrose in Abingdon alongside their outdoor eating area. We were in attendance and answered many questions, also handing out promotional literature. The weather was kind and the display was of interest to a large number of passers -by.

Tuesday 21st May, 2019 - Culham Science Centre

The display was hosted by the Culham Science Centre in the foyer of their restaurant and coffee shop. They very kindly gave us plenty of advance publicity with posters and an article in 'PULSE' the in-house newsletter, and even added a photo of us to their TWITTER feed. We couldn't have been made more welcome, with many interested visitors and almost 100 leaflets being given out.

Saturday 16th March, 2019 - Abingdon and Witney College, Abingdon Campus

The second (and last) model railway show the display attended was the 2019 exhibition of the Abingdon & District Model Railway Club. We were allocated a slightly smaller space than at Oxrail2018 but, maybe having had some practice, we seemed to squeeze more in. The show was very well attended with numbers apparently up on 2018 and we gave out almost 100 anniversary flyers, with many people saying they were looking forward to the celebrations.

Sunday 14th October, 2018 - Abingdon and Witney College, Abingdon Campus

The first display to help celebrate and publicise the 175th anniversary was at the 2018 exhibition of the Oxford & District Model Railway Club, Oxrail2018. The stand was well placed in the main entrance corridor so everybody had to pass us at least twice. Great interest was shown in both the Old Ticket Office at Culham and the upcoming 175th celebrations with about eighty information packs being handed out. Many people had interesting stories to tell about the line with everybody saying they looked forward to June 2019 when they would visit at least one of the venues.
