Radley Station

Saturday 15th June 11:30am - 3:30pm

Whilst not one of the original stations when the Didcot to Oxford line opened, Radley has a long association with the railway. The Bowyer Arms will be hosting the event at Radley. It is very close to the station approach road and the garden provides an elevated view of the station and railway line, safe for small children.

It is believed that the pub opened in the early 1850s, long before Radley had a proper station. It stood alone in the fields between old Radley village (now known as Lower Radley), and the church.

For those wishing to bring their own picnic there is an ideal field nearby with an excellent view of the railway.
Please ask at the Radley History Club tent in the pub garden for directions.

There is no admission charge for this event.

At Radley Station:

A permanent board showing the history of Radley Station will be unveiled at approximately 11:30am

At the Bowyer Arms there will be:

A wide choice of hot and cold food for all ages
Coffee, tea and cake
Display of railway pictures and artefacts
Display of banners depicting the history of Radley station and the Didcot to Oxford railway
Story tellers relating tales about Radley and the railway line
Copies of the book Radley People and the Railway, 1843-2013 for sale

Travelling to and from Radley will be easy:

The 35 bus service between Oxford and Abingdon, which runs every 20 minutes, stops at the end of the short service road leading to the station car park and close to the Bowyer Arms
Passengers with the special combined bus/rail ticket can use it for travel on the 35 service between Abingdon and Radley station
Normal GWR train services will operate throughout the day
Station car park charges will be suspended for the duration of the event

Newly returned to mainline service, GWR number 7029 Clun Castle will pass by at about 12:20pm
The iconic locomotive 60103 Flying Scotsman (4472 in LNER days) is due to pass at about 6:10pm

Members of the public are reminded that the line through Radley Station is very busy with fast trains passing throughout the day, so sensible care must be taken at all times to ensure one's own safety and that of others.

There is ramped access between the car park and the Oxford platform. However, the only means of crossing between here and the Didcot bound platform is via the footbridge. There is no other way to access or leave the Didcot platform.
